Quang Ngai receives over 13.7 million USD from NGOs

Quang Ngai (VNA) - The central province of Quang Ngai received 234.8 billion VND (13.7 million USD) in aid from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) over the past five years, according to the provincial People's Committee.

The figure was announced at the committee's meeting on August 13.

The aid was provided by 22 NGOs through 120 programmes and projects thatfocused on communal development.

Plan International has been providing 14 billion VND a year from 2000 to 2010 for a socio-economic development project in Tu Nghia, Nghia Hanh, Son Tinh and Son Ha districts, and 21 billion VND for the safe water andenvironmental hygiene project conducted from 2005 to 2009.

Meanwhile, the World Vision granted 35 billion VND to a project to mitigate storm aftermaths from 2005-2009, and the East Meets West gave 8 billion VNDto a project to help the disabled and Agent Orange victims.

The province targets to attract 80 billion VND (4.7 million USD) each year from NGOs to help poor people and Agent Orange victims, improve environmental hygiene and develop handicraft villages.-
