Pakistan urges int'l community, UN, OIC to take notice of HR violations in occupied Kashmir
Islamabad, Aug 13 PPI: Pakistan urged international community particularly United Nations, Organization of Islamic Conference and human rights organizations to take notice of grave human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir.
Foreign Office spokesman Muhammad Sadiq at news briefing Wednesday said in wake of brutal killing of Kashmiri leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz and other activists by Indianforces, Pakistan has set in motion process to raise the issue at various levels.
Pakistan has already condemned the incident and is also concerned over attacks on the life and property of Muslim in Occupied Kashmir and their economic blockade byextremist elements, which have serious humanitarian implications.
The spokesman called for immediate steps to end violence against innocent Kashmiris.
He hoped international community would take notice of unwarranted violence againstKashmir and their economic blockade perpetrated by extremist elements.
He urged India to observe restraint and rein-in extremist elements are seeking economic destruction of Kashmiri people. It is important that an enabling environment, free of violence, is created to sustain peace process and address longstanding dispute of Jammu & Kashmir.
He rejected Indian criticism of Pakistan's concern and protest over human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir and said as per UN resolution Kashmir is a disputed territory and not part of India. International community also considers Kashmir as disputed territory. Similarly, inclusion of Kashmir issue in Pakistan, Indiacomposite dialogue process is also recognition of its disputed nature.
Sadiq told a questioner that neither Afghanistan nor India has provided any evidence in support of their allegations regarding Pakistan's involvement in Indian embassy attack in Kabul despite Pakistan's repeated demands. He said unsubstantiatedallegations do not help the war on terror or promote regional peace and stability.
About Dr. Aafia Siddiqui now under detention in United States and being tried in a court, he said Pakistan is making every possible effort that she is notdiscriminated against and her rights as an under-trial prisoner are respected.
``Pakistan will provide all possible assistance to her. We have also requested U.S.
State Department that children of Dr. Aafia, who according to media reports are inU.S.custody, are immediately returned to Pakistan.
``Pakistan was provided consular access to Dr. Aafia and representative of ourembassy met her for two and a half hours. Under direction of her attorneys, Dr.
Aafia is not sharing information about circumstances of her arrest,'' spokesmanstated.
