OIC Secretary General Support for Darfur Bank
Doha, February 02 (QNA) - Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Professor. Ekmeleddin Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has praised the substantial support provided by the State of Qatar to ensure the success of the establishment of the Development Bank of Darfur
In an interview with Qatari daily newspaper 'Ar-Rayah', published today, Ihsanoglu noted that the establishment of this bank comes upon a generous initiative by HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and complementary to and supportive of the Organization's efforts for reconstruction and development in Darfur, which was reflected in last March's International Donors Conference for the reconstruction and development of Darfur.
Professor Ihsanoglu said there are several actions currently under way to complete the establishment of the bank with a constituent capital of USD 200mn provided by the State of Qatar, adding that the working team in charge of the bank's establishment has received preliminary approval from the Central Bank of Sudan to this effect.
He noted that the committee entrusted with the Bank's establishment has assigned consulting firms to prepare a thorough study on the project, explaining that a briefing was given on the preliminary studies conducted by the Qatar National Bank and another specialized company at the committee's third meeting, held in Doha.
The committee also received a request from Turkey to prepare a study on the bank's establishment while benefiting from the Turkish experience in the field of the establishment of banks specialized in financing small scale projects, Professor Ihsanoglu said, expecting the study to be prepared in its final form within a month.
