Businesses purchase 10,000 tonnes of rice every day

HCM City, Aug 15 (VNA) - Business members of the Vietnam Food Association (VFA) have in recent days been actively purchasing rice from Mekong delta with an average of 10,000 tonnes per day, the association said on August 13.

The act is made in response to the Prime Minister instruction to help farmers consume all commercial rice harvested from the bumper summer-fall crop.

The VFA expects the purchased volume will rise to 20,000 tonnes of rice per day soon at a price of around 5 million VND per tonne.

As results, the August purchase by the VFA businesses is expected to reach 640,000 tonnes, or 730,000 tonnes if private businesses are included.

At present, the VFA is accelerating rice delivery to finish the shipment of 3.6 million tonnes under signed contracts in August and September. The association has not yet signed new contracts due to the low rice prices in the world market.

Vietnam targets to export 4.5-4.6 million tonnes of rice this year.-Enditem
