Turkey's prime minister says Turkey's IMF debt dropped to 5.5 bln USD
ANKARA (A.A) - 15.02.2011 - Turkey's prime minister said on Tuesday that Turkey's debt to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had dropped to 5.5 billion USD.
Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey's debt to IMF was 23.5 billion USD when his Justice & Development (AK) Party came to power in November 2002.
"However, it has dropped to 5.5 billion USD," Erdogan said during AK Party's gathering at parliament.
Erdogan said the unemployment rate was 11 percent in November 2010, however it was 13.1 percent in November 2009.
"This indicates a significant decline around 2.1 points in unemployment," Erdogan also said.
Turkey's statistics authority, TurkStat, said earlier Tuesday the country's jobless rate decreased by 2.1 points in the period of November 2010 (covering October, November and December 2010) over a year earlier to 11 percent. Unemployment was 13.1 percent in the period of November 2009.
TurkStat said non-agricultural jobless rate was 13.7 percent while youth unemployment stood at 20.8 percent.
The number of the unemployed dropped to 2,811,000 from 3,270,000 as the number of the employed rose to 22,854,000 from 21,741,000, marking an increase of 1,113 thousand.
TurkStat said 17 percent of the work force was at 15 to 24 years of age and work force participation rate among university graduates was 85.2 percent for men and 71.8 percent for women.
The number of agricultural workers grew by 354,000 while the number of non-agricultural workers rose by 759,000 as 24.9 percent of the employed worked in agricultural sector, 20.4 percent in industrial sector, 6.7 percent in construction sector, and 48 percent in services sector.
Unregistered employment was 42.8 percent, marking a 1.1 point decrease over a year earlier.
Fifteen percent of the unemployed --around 421 thousand people-- were those who had quit their jobs in this period.
Deseasonalized data showed that the number of the employed rose by 167 thousand in November period in 2010 whereas the number of the unemployed dropped by 68 thousand people.
Participation in the work force was 48.9 percent, while employment rate and unemployment rate stood ar 43.4 percent and 11.2 percent, respectively.
