Turkish industry minister says jobless rate to drop 10 percent
ISTANBUL (A.A) - 15.02.2011 - Turkish industry minister said on Tuesday that jobless rate would drop to 10 percent in 2011.
Turkey's statistics authority, TurkStat, said the country's jobless rate decreased by 2.1 points in the period of November 2010 (covering October, November and December 2010) over a year earlier to 11 percent. Unemployment was 13.1 percent in the period of November 2009. The number of the unemployed dropped to 2,811,000 from 3,270,000 as the number of the employed rose to 22,854,000 from 21,741,000.
Industry and Trade Minister Nihat Ergun said, "if it continues in this way, jobless rate in the country will fell to around 10 percent."
Regarding growth figures for 2010, Ergun said that the certain figure for growth would be clear at the end of this month and it could be around 8 percent.
