New Delhi, Feb 16 (PTI) In their effort to promote
tourism in the country, Railways will launch the first 'Bharat
Tirath' train on February 19 from Howrah in Eastern Indian
state of West Bengal.
Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee had proposed the Bharat
Tirath trains in her 2010-11 Rail Budget.
The 12-coach special tourist train will begin its
fortnight-long journey covering popular destinations including
Bhubaneswar, Bangalore, Mysore, Maduari, Kanyakumari and
Rameswaram, among others.
Besides these, the south-bound tourist train will also
travel to Puducherry, Kanchipuram, Chennai, Tirupati and
Vishakhapatnam before returning to Howrah on March 5.
"We are offering three types of packages -- Budget,
Stanadard and Deluxe -- for tourists to avail the Bharat
Tirath service," said a senior IRCTC official. IRCTC is
coordinating the launching of Bharat Tirath special trains.
Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC)
is a subsidiary of the Indian Railways that handles the
catering, tourism and online ticketing operations of the
railways.
The 12-coach train will have two AC sleeper class and
