Turkey's traces in al-Haram al Sharif

JERUSALEM (A.A) - 21.02.2011 - Traces of Turkey and Turks gradually increase in al-Haram al Sharif, the third most important religious site for Muslims.
Turkey earlier replaced both the crescent of Masjid Qubbat As-Sakhrah and the tiles of Chain Dome status (Kubbetussilsile). This time Turkish private sector covered the buildings with lead sheet to protect them against hot weather and rain.
Britain had made the lead sheet years ago but most of them had corroded in time and lost function.
Pb Metal Lead Company based in southern province of Adana undertook renewal of lead sheet on the library building near al-Haram al Sharif and the lead sheet on the roof of the museum.
Atilla Keskin, owner of Turkish company, told A.A correspondent on Monday that 48 tones of lead sheet were melted in Jerusalem and sent to Turkey in piles. "We have refined the lead sheet in our factory and sent them back. 104 tones out of the total 201 tones of lead sheet was sent to Jerusalem last September. The remaining lead sheet will be sent soon," he said.
Keskin said renewal of the lead sheet cost 430,000 USD.
