No change in fight against terrorism after Musharraf resigns: Fukuda
TOKYO, Aug. 18 Kyodo - Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda said Monday that there is unlikely to be a change in the fight against terrorism, after Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf announced his resignation earlier in the day.
''I don't think there will be any change in the so-called fight againstterrorism or the situation in Afghanistan for now,'' Fukuda told reporters.
Musharraf, facing moves by Pakistan's coalition government to impeach him, announced on national television that he is resigning after nine years in powerto spare the country further political uncertainty and turmoil.
Fukuda also reiterated that his government will work toward legislation in the next Diet session to continue Japan's refueling mission in support of U.S.-ledantiterrorism operations in and around Afghanistan.
