Turkey evacuates over 15 thousand people from Libya
ANKARA (A.A) - 27.02.2011 - Turkey has evacuated over 15 thousand people from Libya so far by air and by sea, the country's crisis management authority said on Saturday.
Military cargo planes and private commercial airliners have brought back 10,710 people through an air bridge established between several Turkish airports and Libya's Tripoli airport.
Forty-one planes, two frigates and two ferries were deployed in the evacuation efforts for Turkish citizens as well as foreign nationals including Vietnamese, Bosnian, Macedonian, Korean, Serbian, Syrian and other country's citizens.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry said the two Turkish ferries set sail early on Sunday that from Turkey's southwestern Marmaris port enroute to Libya's Ras Lanuf and Misurata ports.
