Turkey hosts 28 million foreign tourists, makes $20 billion in 2010
ISPARTA (A.A) - 28.02.2011 - Turkey earned $28 billion in 2010 from 28 foreign tourists visiting the country, on Monday said a deputy undersecretary with the Turkish Ministry of Tourism and Culture.
"Tourism is a major source of income for our country. Turkey hosted 28 million foreign tourists and received 20 billion USD in revenue last year. Tourism is of utmost importance for creating new jobs and closing the trade deficit," Ozgur Ozaslan told reporters during a hotel inauguration in the southern province of Isparta.
The number of tourists visiting Turkey year-on-year in the first month of 2011 rose by 20 percent. Turkey attracted 975,723 tourists in January 2011. Most of the visitors were from Germany in the mentioned period. Iranian, Georgian and Bulgarian tourists followed Germans.
