Turkish premier says Turkey is a source of inspiration for people of Arab countries

ANKARA (A.A) - 28.02.2011 - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that common thread to all what happened in Libya, Egypt and Tunisia was peoples' demand for more freedom, more justice and fair sharing of wealth, adding that Turkey was a source of inspiration for peoples who want to rebuild their countries where they can look to the future with confidence.
In his televised address to nation on Monday, Erdogan started his remarks by touching on the recent uprising in Egypt, Tunisia and Libya.
Erdogan described these countries as friends and sisters and said, "we consider public's will as the only direction to go."
Stating that incidents in north African nations started a big change in the region, Erdogan said, "with its democracy, strong economy and its peaceful and active policies on global issues, Turkey is a model for all peoples who work to protect their countries and future. Turkey is a source of inspiration for peoples who start off to build a country where they can look to the future with confidence."
Erdogan also said that Turkey had never interfered in any other countries.
"We are saying public will, rights and freedoms, justice and equality, advanced democracy; and we are saying it not only for our country, but also for all other nations," Erdogan said. "Despite all the pain and troubles, we believe and hope that winds of change blowing in our region will bring good results."
On Turkish economy, Erdogan said that Turkey has made a great progress in recent years thanks to its dynamism and its people.
"Today, we are still getting good news from economy amid dark news from several countries," Erdogan said.
He said recent figures showed that Turkey's exports rose 23 percent in January from the same month a year earlier to 9.65 billion USD.
"Our goal is to be one of the top 10 economies in the world by 2023, the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey. I hope we will make it. We will increase per capita income to 25,000 USD. We will work to push up exports to 500 billion USD and foreign trade to 1 trillion USD. We will exert efforts to rise employment rate 10 points and bring the number of employed to 30 million. We will drop jobless rate to 5 percent in Turkey," he added.
"We are all dreaming of a happier and prosperous Turkey. We are dreaming but we are not daydreamers. Over the past eight and a half years, we have proved that we have the potential to achieve all our targets," Erdogan said.
