Qatar Consumer Price Index Increased in January 2011

Doha, March 01 (QNA) - Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) has released the Consumer price Index (CPI) for January 2011. The CPI increased by 0.90% compared to December 2010, and 1.55% when compared with January 2010, a QSA statement said.
During this month, increases hit almost the CPI groups with rates ranging between 0.05% and 2.9% when compared with the figures of December 2010.
The rent group has experienced relative stability while there was a decrease by 0.08% compared to December 2010, however the decline is much sharper, 5.39% compared to January 2010.
Transportation and Communication showed an increase of 2.9% when compared to the December 2010 and 5.93% when compared to January 2010 due to the rise in fuel prices in the local market.
The index for food and beverages increased by 0.78% compared to the previous month and by 4.58% compared to January 2010.
When calculating the CPI after eliminating effect of rent, it is worth mentioning that it has increased by 1.33% compared to December 2010 while it was 4.54% when compared to January 2010.
