M'SIAN PM'S VISIT TO FOSTER SECURITY COOPERATION

PUTRAJAYA, March 2 (Bernama) -- The visit of Najib Razak to Australia will solidify bilateral cooperation in security and other matters, Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said Wednesday.

The Prime Minister, during the three-day visit beginning Wednesday, would firm join efforts to curb human trafficking and terrorism, Hishammuddin told reporters here.

He said that Malaysia and Australia had been cooperating for a long time in handling these matters.

Agencies involved in the cooperation included the Australian Federal Police, Australian Secret Intelligence Services and Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, Hishammuddin said.

He said the joint efforts had benefited not only the two countries but the region as a whole.

Hishammuddin said that one success of the cooperation was the detention of an Iraqi believed to be the head of a human trafficking syndicate.

The Iraqi was being charged under the Immigration Act while awaiting extradition to Australia, he said.
