SINGAPORE, March 2 (Bernama) -- New Zealand authorities have accepted Singapore's offer of a five-man Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team to assist in forensic work to identify victims killed in the recent Christchurch earthquake.

The DVI team departed Singapore Tuesday and arrived in Christchurch this morning, the authorities said in a statement here.

They joined the Singapore contingent in Christchurch, where personnel from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) continue to assist the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) and local authorities in relief operations.

Led by Commander of the SAF Military Medicine Institute Col (Dr) Tan Peng Hui, an experienced forensic dentist, the DVI team comprises two members from the Health Sciences Authority -- Senior Consultant Forensic Pathologist Dr George Paul and Senior DNA Forensic Scientist Simon Lim Eng Seng.

The two other members were Crime Scene Examiner Sunny Low Hiok of the Singapore Police Force and Automated Fingerprint Identification System Supervisor Lee Mei Fun.
