Turkish Defense minister Gonul in Saudi Arabia
JEDDAH (A.A) – 02.03.2011 - Turkish National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul met on Wednesday with Deputy Defense Minister Prince Khaled of Saudi Arabia.
Speaking at the meeting, Prince Khaled talked about influence of Turkey in the region, underlining that they wanted to see Turkey as a strategic partner.
Khaled said, "cultural elements and religious ties connecting the two societies together play an important role in improvement of relations. Both parties should assess those elements to boost relations more. We want to see Turkey as strategic partner of Saudi Arabia."
Gonul made a speech giving information about developing power and influence of Turkey in the region and Turkey's steps taken in economy, politics and defense.
Gonul separately visited a Defense Industry Exhibition together with Saudi Arabia's Minister of Commerce & Industry Abdallah bin Zaynal Ali Reza.
Many businessmen from Turkey attended the exhibition where the companies explained their projects and activities in areas of defense industry.
Within the scope of his talks in Riyadh, Gonul visited an International Turkish school.
He is expected to also have a meeting with Prof. Dr. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, secretary general of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), in Jeddah on Thursday.
