China urges to respect Libya sovereignty
BEIJING, March 3 (Itar-Tass) -- China is of the opinion that the
sovereignty and territorial integrity of Libya should be respected, Jiang Yu, official spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said at a briefing here on Thursday, responding to the request of journalists to comment on the resolution of the U.N. General Assembly, which suspends Libya's membership in the U.N. Council for Human Rights..
"Beijing believes that the discussion of problems connected with Libya in the corresponding U.N. institutions should promote the early
restoration of stability in that country," she said. Jiang Yu stressed
that, in the opinion of China, a number of principles should be respected in this situation.
"Libya's sovereignty and territorial integrity should be respected. The settlement of the current crisis in that country should be promoted by peaceful means and with the help of talks," she continued. According to Jiang Yu, the U.N. Security Council should heed the opinion of the Arab and African countries.
Responding to the question of journalists about Beijing's opinion of a possible armed invasion of Libya, Jiang Yu said that sovereignty and territorial integrity should be respected during the settlement of
international problems. "We hope the countries will resolve those problems on the basis of principles accepted in international relations," the Chinese diplomat said.
