Turkish minister for foreign trade meets Iraqi minister of housing & municipalities

ANKARA (A.A) - 03.03.2011 - Turkish State Minister for Foreign Trade Zafer Caglayan extended the government's full support to the new Iraqi government.
Caglayan said at a meeting with Iraqi Minister of Housing & Municipalities Muhammad Sahib al-Daraji, "Turkish contractors joined a tender for establishment of New Sadr City in Iraq. Turkish government attaches great importance and extends support to this project. I hope that Turkish consortium will win the tender since Turkish contractors have the necessary power, experience and technology."
Referring to economic and commercial relations with Iraq, Caglayan said, "our trade volume reached $7.4 billion in 2010. We want to increase this amount up to $12 billion by the end of the year. More than 260 Turkish firms have so far undertaken 587 projects in Iraq worth of $11 billion."
Caglayan highlighted importance of establishment of a Turkey-Iraq Construction Business Council. 
Iraqi Minister of Housing & Municipalities al-Daraji, on his part, said that Turkey played an important role in efforts to ensure a new democratic process in Iraq. 
He defined Turkey as the biggest commercial partner of Turkey, adding that they needed Turkish construction sector's experiences and support in their rebuilding process.  
Iraq needs building of 2 million dwellings in four years, he said, adding that Iraqi government would guarantee all investments in housing.
