REIKI:AN ALTERNATIVE HEALING METHOD

By Ali Imran Mohd Noordin

KUALA LUMPUR, March 4 (Bernama) -- Is it possible to cure or rejuvenate someone by just placing your hands on or close to the person's body?

Is this real? Can it really happen?

Yes, this can really happen. Energy transfer between two people for healing has been in practice for a long time now and this form of healing is now known as Reiki.

Almost all cultures in the world believe in this form of spiritual healing but expressed in ways suitable with their principles and beliefs.

Reiki comes from the Japanese word ‘Ray-ki’. The word ‘Ray’ literally means ‘universe’ and ‘ki’ means life force energy. Some also define Reiki as ‘universal life energy’ and is increasingly gaining acceptance in supplementing modern medicine.

Reiki treats the whole body, emotions, mind and spirit, and provides relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well-being. Many people have reported miraculous outcomes.

Reiki is not alien to Malaysia. There are already some renowned
practitioners here like Master Mohd Hisham Yahya and Master Terry Ng.

REIKI IS DIVERSE

Today, a myriad of Reiki techniques is in practice in line with the beliefs of the respective communities. Among some of the popular techniques are Seichim Reiki, Gtummo Reiki, Sufism Reiki and Kundalini Reiki.

Reiki practitioners are guided by five principles, known as ‘Five Reiki Precepts’. The principles are actually a list of positive values to be absorbed in the practitioner’s routine.

The five principles advice all practitioners to control anger, not to worry, be grateful of what they have, to work with diligence and to be kind to the people.

These values contribute to the ‘art of inviting happiness’ and ‘miraculous medicine for all diseases’.

KUNDALINI REIKI (KR)

According to Master Mohd Hisham Yahya, who practices the Kundalini Reiki founded by Master Ole Gabrielsen from Denmark, many in fact have used the spiritual energy without realising they have actually practiced Reiki.

“Energy is everywhere around us, it cannot be created or destroyed. But it may change from one form to another,” he said.

Practitioners must obey to Reiki ethics. Most importantly, patient must be informed about Reiki. Healing process can only take place upon permission by a well-informed patient.

The practitioners too must not promise the degree of healing from the process, and should only touch a patient with consent, avoid making a diagnosis, and lastly protect their patient’s confidentiality.

“Reiki is a smart energy, it will flow wherever required by a patient’s body even without direction,” added Hisham who has been practicing Reiki since six years ago.

ANOTHER HOPE

Reiki is meant to be an alternative, not the absolute remedy to human ailments.

Reiki is slowly making its way into modern medicine. At hospitals and clinics across the United States, Reiki is appreciated as a meaningful and cost effective way to improve patient care.

Established hospitals like Portsmouth Regional Hospital, New Hampshire and California Pacific Medical Center in the US are among hospitals with solid Reiki programmes.

PRACTICALLY PROVEN

Applying Reiki requires no technology and this means the hospital does not need to spend on new machines, staff training and maintenance.

It is also beneficial in cost aspect because in many cases, Reiki
practitioners offer their services for free.

Meanwhile, a research study at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut, US
undertaken in year 2000 has proven that Reiki improved patients’ sleep by 86 per cent and reduced pain by 78 per cent.

The same study also found that this treatment could alleviate nausea by 80 per cent and reduce anxiety during pregnancy by 94 per cent.

WORTH A TRY

Over the years, Malaysians too had been burdened with increasing cost of healthcare. People now are more prone to diseases than before.

Known for its reputation, Reiki is indeed an easy, safe but cheap method worth an experience for all regardless of any age, race, gender or location.

There is no conflict between the practitioner’s religious practices and Reiki, thus anybody can freely practice this healing method.

"I hope each family in Malaysia can practice Reiki as self-effort towards goodness".

“It also helps you to manage stress and relax yourself,” added Hisham.

LEARNING REIKI

There are various types of Reiki practiced in Malaysia, each with its own technique and training centre.

Among popular local training centre websites are Master Hisham’s Dimensi Alpha Resources (www.reiki-malaysia.com) and Master Terry Ng’s Reiki Natural Teraphy (www.reiki.com.my).
