China's defence budget in 2011 to exceed $ 91 bln.
BEIJING, March 4 (Itar-Tass) -- China's defence expenditures in 2011 will amount to 601.1 billion of yans (91.5 billion dollars), which is 12.7 percent more than in 2010, official representative of the 4th session of the All-China Assembly of People's Representatives of the 11th convocation Li Zhaoxing told a press conference here on Friday. The session will open in the Chinese capital on March 5.
Making public this data, Li Zhaoxing stressed that the defence budget is to be approved at the forthcoming session. According to him, increased defence expenditures are connected with the necessity to raise the living standard of servicemen, as well as the defence capacity of the Chinese Armed Forces. The defence budget, as he stressed, is calculated in the way which maintains a balance between the economic development and the development of the country's defence capacity. This year's defence expenditures are to amount to six percent of the country's all budget expenditures.
According to Li Zhaoxing, China will continue to follow the way of
peaceful development and carry out the military policy which is defensive in its essence. China needs limited armed forces exclusively for defending the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. At the same time, as he stressed, increased defence expenditures don't pose a threat to other countries.
In 2010, China's military expenditures amounted to 532.1 billion yans (80.87 billion dollars according to the current rate), which is 7.5 percent more than in 2009.
