Ruling Turkish Cypriot Party says no to Hellenizing the island
LEFKOSA (A.A) - 04.03.2011 - Turkish Cypriots will foil attempts by the Greek Cypriots to take the entire island under their control, said an official with the ruling party in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
"Turkish Cypriots will not play into a Greek Cypriot game aimed at Hellenizing and taking control of the entire island," said Ertugrul Hasipoglu, secretary general of the National Unity Party (UBP).
His remarks came just days after yet another public rally in Turkish Cyprus which has seen protests and slogans against Turkey and the Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Such protests have heightened tensions between Turkey and the TRNC as Turkish Cypriots marched last month in another rally to protest an Ankara-backed austerity plan.
"Those who attack our Motherland Turkey and our government should know that such actions will bring no good without presenting any alternatives," Hasipoglu said.
