Four Malaysian University Students Competing In Kaspersky Regional Cup 2011

SHAH ALAM (Bernama) - Four Malaysians were
among sixteen university students from the Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa
(MEA) competing in the two-day Kaspersky Lab Asia Pacific & MEA Cup and
Conference 2011 held at the University Teknology Mara (UiTM) here Saturday.

The four were Asnita Hashim (UiTM), Fereshteh Falah Chamasemani and Majid
Neseri Njad (Multimedia University) and Norliza Hashim (Universiti Malaysia
Sarawak).

The others comprised eight participants from India, two from Nigeria, one
each from Australia and Iran.

The three best papers on technical, social, economic and legal issues
related to cyber crime and cyber threats chosen by a panel comprising
academics, professors and Kaspersky Lab Speacialists will be presented at the
International Cup, which will be held in Munich, Germany from April 13 to 15
this year.

The winner of the International Cup will win Euro $1,500 (RM6,312.11)
and an internship at Kaspersky Lab' headquarters in Moscow, Russia. Kaspersky is
a Russian computer security company offering anti-virus, anti-spyware,
anti-spam, and anti-intrusion products.

At last year's Kaspersky Lab International Cup, Malaysians Asnita Hashim
and Raihana Md Saidi from UiTM emerged as third place winners.

Kaspersky Lab's Head of Educational Programs, Svetlana Efimova (female) in
her speech at the opening of the competition and the conference said that the
students' presentations would be evaluated based on their presentation
performance including social significance and relevance of the projects,
practicality and innovation, as well as, the depth of their research.

They would also be evaluated on their ability to present the concept and
ideas with confidence and conviction and to reply to queries from the panel.

UiTM's Deputy Vice Chancellor (Industrial and Community Networking)
Associate Professor Dr Norsaadah Ismail said that the event supports the
Malaysian government's commitment in increasing public awareness and
educating the public on the significance of cyber security.
