Ulyanovsk reg parliament to vote to extend office term of incumbent

(Itar-Tass) - Lawmakers of Russia's Ulyanovsk
region on Sunday will vote on extending the office term of the region's
incumbent governor Sergei Morozov.
Under the current regulations, the voting will be secret and its
results will be announce during the session, the press service of the
Ulyanovsk region's Legislative Assembly told Itar-Tass and added that for
the first time the process of considering the nominee will broadcast via
Internet.
Morozov will present his program of activities and a forecast of the
region's socio-economic development.
Morozov was nominated by Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who
submitted his candidature to the Legislative Assembly on February 28.
On February 18, the United Russia party holding the majority of seats
in the Ulyanovsk region's parliament submitted to the Russian president
its list of nominees for the region's governor. Apart from Sergei Morozov,
the list included Ulyanovsk mayor Alexander Pinkov and auditor of the
Russian Audit Chamber Sergei Ryabukhin. The president chose Morozov from
among the three.
Sergei Morozov was born in 1959 in Ulyanovsk. He worked his way up
from criminal investigator to head of anti-drug department of the region's
police. In 1995, he was appointed head of police administration of the
city of Dimitrovgrad. In December 2000, he was elected mayor of
Dimitrovgrad, and governor of the Ulyanovsk region in December 2004. In
March 2006, the regional parliament voted for his second term in office.
He is married with four children, two sons and two daughters.
