Estonia to elect its parliament on Sunday

TALLINN (Itar-Tass) - Estonia elects its unicameral national
parliament (Riigikogu) on Sunday.
Polling stations will be open from 09:00 a.m. local time (10:00 a.m.
Moscow time) till 20:00 local time (21:00 Moscow time), the republic
election commission said.
Elections will be held in 12 constituencies. There are 912,600
eligible voters in the country, while more than 120,000 holders of the
so-called "grey passports," i.e. Estonian resident who do not enjoy the
status of citizens, are not allowed to take part in the voting. The
majority of them are Russian-speakers.
As many as 789 contenders are vying for 101 seats in the parliament.
The number of candidates has decreased by more than 200 as compared with
the 2007 elections. A total 757 contenders are candidates from party
lists, and 32 are independent candidates, against eight in 2007.
Experts stake on the ruling Party of Reforms, which is praised for
maintaining political and economic stability in the country in the period
of recession.
