BN'S WIN VERY SIGNIFICANT, SAYS PM NAJIB

KUALA LUMPUR, March 7 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Razak Sunday night described ruling Barisan Nasional's (BN) wins in the stae of Melaka's Merlimau and state of Pahang's Kerdau by-elections as very significant.

The Prime Minister and BN Chairman, while thanking the voters for supporting the BN, also said that the BN government would do its best for them.

"I am thankful to Allah for granting the two major vistories to BN. Thank you to the voters in Merlimau and Kerdau," he said in his Tweeter message Sunday night.

BN retained the Merlimau state seat when its candidate, Roslan Ahmad defeated PAS candidate Yuhaizad Abdullah with a majority of 3,643 votes. Roslan obtained 5,962 votes compared with Yuhaizad's 2,319.

In Kerdau, BN candidate Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad defeated PAS candidate Hasanuddin Salim by a majority of 2,724 votes. Syed Ibrahim obtained 5,060 votes to Hasanuddin's 2,336 votes.
