SEEK SATISFACTION IN SERVING PEOPLE, PM TELLS CIVIL SERVANTS

PUTRAJAYA, March 8 (Bernama) -- Primi Minister Najib Razak told civil servants Monday night that they should seek satisfaction in contributing to the wellbeing of the people and the nation.

"This is the most lasting satisfaction to us, when our service bring goodness, especially given the concept of worship in Islam which is very broad," the Prime Minister said at a dinner to honour officers of the Treasury who retired between April 2008 and March 6 Mac 2011.

Najib, who is also Finance Minister, said that civil servants should not focus on material gain to achieve personal satisfaction.

"Working hard with full dedication and integrity is a form of worship in Islam, and whatever we do with sincerity will be rewarded by God," he said.

The satisfaction of working as a civil servant was different from the satisfaction sought by entrepreneurs and people in the professions, Najib said.

Najib said he got satisfaction watching ministers and other members of the administration "conscious" of the key performance indicators they had to achieve.

"Although they are some who had to apologise for not achieving KPI targets because of factors out of their control, I am confident that they realised that their effort was related to what must be achieved macro-wise by a government," he said.
