SEMINAR ON AEC AND MALAYSIA'S FTA INITIATIVES

KUALA LUMPUR, March 9 (Bernama) -- The International Trade and Industry inistry (MITI) and the Asean-Business Advisory Council (ABAC) will organise a eminar on "Asean Economic Community" as part of its outreach programme.

The one-day seminar, to be officiated by MITI minister Mustapa Mohamed on arch 17, is expected to be participated by about 700 Malaysian traders, xporters and importers.

The objective is to update participants on the efforts undertaken by alaysia towards realising the Asean Economic Community (AEC) by 2015 and the atest achievements in the Asean Free Trade Agreement (AFTA).

The seminar would also discuss free trade agreement (FTA) implementation etween Malaysia and her dialogue partners such as China, Korea, Japan, Pakistan ew Zealand and India, MITI said in a statement Wednesday.

Among others, eight FTA clinics will be held concurrently providing the platform for participants to seek advice and guidance on the application rocedures to obtain preferential tariff treatment and clarification ertaining to rules of origin.

Each clinic will be facilitated by key FTA negotiators.

After a short overview of each FTA, participants would be allowed a one-to-one discussion with key negotiators/facilitators to better comprehend igned FTAs, the statement said.

MITI is optimistic the seminar would give better insight to participants on enefits and opportunities for the business community especially Malaysians, to ain from Malaysia's FTA initiatives along with efforts to create the AEC.
