Cathay pacific to increase flight frequency to Msia
KUALA LUMPUR, March 10 (Bernama) -- Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd, Hong Kong's leading airline, aims to introduce new destinations and increase flight frequency, mostly to Malaysia, this year.
Country Manager for Malaysia and Brunei Mandy Wu said Malaysia was a market with high potential, having seen an increase in the number travellers in and out of the country.
"Malaysia is a very important market for us. We have a long history with Malaysia, where we started to fly to Kuala Lumpur since 1957 and in 1977, we flew to Penang.
"Currently, from Malaysia, we fly to a lot of Japanese destinations. We talked to travel agents and found there was a lot of demand for flights from Japan to Malaysia," she said during a briefing on Cathay Pacific's 2010 financial results.
Due to spiralling oil prices, Mandy said Cathay Pacific was currently revising its fuel surcharge which was being reviewed by the Hong Kong Civil Aviation.
"The airline industry is challenging and unpredictable. We will continue to manage our finances prudently and will keep cost firmly under control.
"We will not raise fares just because we want to increase profits", she added.
Wu added despite challenges, the airline would still offer competitive fares and special fair promotions between Hong Kong and Malaysia.
The airline, which flies passengers and cargo to about 120 destinations around the globe, recently placed another order for 27 aircraft, bringing the total fleet size to 91, expected to be delivered between now and 2019.
The airline also announced that it will increase flights to Milan, Italy, in July and increase capacity on other routes to Paris, Jakarta, Surabaya, Bangkok and Delhi.
