Mekong delta: new destination for shipbuilding industry
Can Tho (VNA) - The Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Vinashin) in cooperation with Mekong delta Can Tho city are accelerating a 150 billion VND shipyard project in order to help the latter to be able to build and repair 6,800-tonne ships.
They had secured a contract to build a 6,800 tonne ship from a Singaporeanpartner.
In order to prepare for the endeavour to launch the project, the two completed a 90-m wharf, a 120-m dry dock, a 150-m slipway and a 4,000 sq.mworkshop.
The project, in addition to a project to build an shipbuilding industrial zone in Cai Rang district, is part of a Vinashin's plan in the 2005-2015period.
Two other localities in the Mekong delta, namely Tien Giang and Hau Giang provinces also received Vinashin's assistance to build shipyards capable of building and repairing ships and container carriers of 10,000 tonnes at maximum, and two industrial zones for shipbuilding.-Enditem
