Air NZ increases fares due to fuel pice hike
MELBOURNE, March 10 (Bernama) -- Air New Zealand will increase its domestic
and international air fares due to rising jet fuel cost.
Effective from March 18, domestic and international airfares will rise by an
average of seven per cent and fares to Australia and the Pacific Islands will
rise by an average eight per cent, the airline said in a statement Thursday.
Air New Zealand said over the past month jet fuel has increased from
US$114 a barrel to US$130 a barrel, adding almost US$10 million a month to the
airline's operating costs.
On Wednesday, Qantas announced its international fuel surcharges will
increase again next week as continuing political instability in the Middle East
impacts the price of oil and jet fuel.
