BERNAMA, ANTARA TO ENHANCE COOPERATION
KUALA LUMPUR, March 12 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian national news agency
Bernama and Indonesian national news agency Antara are expected to sign several collaborative programmes at their three-day summit of senior officials here from Saturday.
Bernama general-manager Hasnul Hassan said the collaboration was aimed at further strengthening the existing close relations between the governments, peoples and the private sectors of both countries.
The summit is a follow up of the Malaysia-Indonesia Joint Committee Meeting on Information and Communications, held here in May last year, he said.
The preparatory meeting for the summit took place in Jakarta in December last year.
"We are happy that apart from a delegation of 17 editors and senior officials of Antara, the summit is also participated by observers comprising senior journalists from Indonesian newspapers as well as Indonesian media practitioners," he said.
"The summit gathers nearly 70 journalists from both countries. I hope that the largest gathering of Malaysia-Indonesia media practitioners will further propel the close relations between the media of both countries," he said.
Information Communication and Culture Minister Dr Rais Yatim is
scheduled to declare open the summit Saturday, which will also be covered by Indonesian print and electronic media.
Hasnul said Bernama and Antara planned, among others, to jointly publish a news magazine focusing on both countries' social and economic relations, and carry out exchange of journalists.
He said that in conjunction with the summit, Bernama, in collaboration with the Information Communication and Culture Ministry as well as the Melaka state government would organise a mini investment and tourism seminar in Melaka on the summit's second day.
Melaka Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam is scheduled to deliver a
keynote address at the seminar in Ayer Keroh.
