Japan's Ambassador in Doha Expresses Concern
Doha, March 12 (QNA) - The Japanese Embassy in Doha was worried over the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit the country, leaving hundreds of people dead.
"We are in contact with the foreign ministry on this disaster. The Japanese in Doha are also in contact with their families, though the mobile phone lines have got disrupted," said Kenjiro Monji, Japanese Ambassador to Qatar.
"We have a specially designed computer system to contact the family members during such disasters. The Japanese in Doha can exchange messages through the system with their families even if the phones lines get disrupted," the Ambassador told Qatari English-language daily "The Peninsula"
Ambassador Monji also said that the Japanese government is taking all possible measures to cope with the situation.
"Prime Minister Kan Naoto has said that relief operations have started."
There are about 1, 200 Japanese in Qatar and they are trying to get in touch with relatives in the northeastern coastal city of Sendai and other affected areas. (QNA(
