MALAYSIA'S HALAL SHOW BECKONS GCC INDUSTRY PLAYERS

By Abdul Muin Majid

DUBAI, March 14 (Bernama) -- The international business community has been urged not to miss the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2011 which has established itself as the premier event for halal business players from across the globe.

In this connection, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corp (Matrade) Dubai is inviting companies from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region to visit the eighth edition of MIHAS scheduled for Apr 6-9 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

"They can contact Matrade Dubai for pre-arranged business meetings with Malaysian companies during MIHAS 2011," Matrade Dubai's senior trade commissioner, Dzulkifli Mahmud, said here.

He said Malaysian companies had a lot to offer to buyers from the GCC which groups Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Oman.

This, he said, was reflected in the good response received by the large contingent of Malaysian companies present at the Gulfood exhibition in Dubai recently.

Matrade said the success of MIHAS in the past seven years had been proven through the participation of numerous foreign countries occupying more than 600 booths annually.

Total sales worth US$400 million (US$1=RM3.00) were generated in 2010, according to the trade promotion agency.

"With the global economic recovery, MIHAS 2011 is expected to achieve record levels in term of sales, exhibitors and visitors," said Dzulkifli.

In conjunction with MIHAS 2011, Matrade will be organising the Incoming Buying Mission on Apr 5-6 at Menara Matrade in Kuala Lumpur.

An integral component of MIHAS, the programme serves as a platform for Malaysian exporters and foreign exhibitors to meet with international buyers.
