MATRADE AND CIDB TO HELP MALAYSIAN COMPANIES BID FOR WORLD CUP 2022 PROJECTS
KUALA LUMPUR, March 15 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) will work with the Construction Industry Development Board of Malaysia (CIDB) to form a consortium to help the bidding by local companies for projects from Qatar's World Cup 2022.
"The projects in Qatar will be very big and the small voice will
get a lesser chance to bid. So, there is a need for us to group them together," said Matrade deputy chief executive officer, Dr Wong Lai Sum.
She told this to reporters after the seminar on, "Project Qatar 2022: Doing Business and Opportunities in the Construction Industry in Qatar", here Monday.
She said Matrade was also in talks with Exim Bank and SME Bank to assist with funds for the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to go abroad.
To help local companies better understand Qatar's business
situation, Matrade will organise a specialised marketing mission on construction and building materials to the country from May 2-5.
The mission is also in conjuction with the Eighth Construction Technology and Building Materials Expo in Doha, Qatar.
Wong said Matrade believes that Malaysian companies can secure some projects in Qatar.
This is based on the proven track record of Malaysian companies previously there.
"But, it is hard to forecast a number, as Qatar has not yet fully planned its development projects," he added.
