TOURISM M'SIA TENDER PROCEDURE "TRANSPARENT", SAYS MINISTER
KUALA LUMPUR, March 15 (Bernama) -- Tourism Minister Dr Ng Yen Yen Tuesday refuted allegations of cronyism in the awarding of advertising contracts for the 2011-2013 campaign of Tourism Malaysia.
She told the House of Representatives that contracts were awarded in accordance with government procurement procedures which were "transparent, open, fair and equitable".
The bidders were identified only by their tender code number when they were scrutinised by committees according to procedures set out in the tender document, Dr Ng said.
"So, the issue of cronyism, whether political or otherwise, does not arise," she said in response to questions from several MPS.
Dr Ng proceeded to give details of the lucrative campaign, the tender procedure, the dates of the various stages of evaluation and selection, and the names of the successful bidders.
Later, Dr Ng was asked by reporters at the Parliament lobby about
Integrated Strategic Communications, which had been behind the "Malaysia Truly Asia" campaign, withdrawing from contention, citing "ambiguity" in the selection procedure.
Dr Ng said that the company should by now be familiar with the Tourism Malaysia procedure, after being awarded contracts for 12 consecutive years worth RM160 million (US$52.11 million) (US$1=RM3.07).
