Unemployment rate in Turkey drops to 11.4 percent
ANKARA (A.A) - 15.03.2011 - The rate of unemployed people in Turkey went down 2.1 percent in December, 2010 when compared to the same month a year ago and was recorded as 11.4 percent.
In December 2009, the rate of unemployed people was recorded as 13.5 percent.
Turkey's statistics authority, TurkStat, announced Tuesday results of the labor force survey for December 2010.
Unemployment in the non-agricultural sector was recorded as 14.2 percent and unemployment among the youth was recorded as 21.6 percent in December 2010.
The number of employed people in December 2010 went up to 22,665,000 from 21,451,000 a year ago.
TurkStat said that the number of agricultural workers grew 456,000 while the number of non-agricultural workers rose by 758,000 last year.
In December, 2010, 24.6 percent of the employed in agricultural sector, 20.5 percent in industrial sector, 6.4 percent in construction sector, and 48.5 in services sector.
Unregistered employment was 42 percent in 2010, marking a 1 point decrease over the previous year, TurkStat also said.
