APPEALS TO MALAYSIANS TO CONTRIBUTE TO JAPAN'S QUAKE AND TSUNAMI VICTIMS
KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 (Bernama) -- World Vision Malaysia (WVM) has appealed to Malaysians to contribute donations to finance a massive relief response after the earthquake and tsunami in Japan last Friday.
WVM in a statement Wednesday said, World Vision International President Kevin Jenkins has declared a global response and confirmed a US$10 million appeal across all World Vision offices around the world.
"While WVM is not setting any target amount for the contribution, we are committed to help World Vision International to achieve it's target of US$10 million," it said.
The statement said, a World Vision team has reached Sendai in Japan within 48 hours after the eaerthquake to explore how the organisation's relief expertise can support Japanese government-led response missions.
Japan is now struggling to recover after the massive Friday's 9.0 scale earthquake followed by approximately a seven-metre high tsunami waves which killed thousands of people.
WVM is a Christian relief, development and advocacy organisation dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice.
