Turkish premier says Turkey and Russia are working together to solve regional issues
MOSCOW (A.A) - 16.03.2011 - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday said Turkey and Russia had engaged in close cooperation to solve issues in the Caucasus.
"We are exerting with Russia joint efforts aimed at the economic development of the region. We have also taken a step to launch an initiative to bring together Russia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia under a Caucasus cooperation council," Erdogan told students at the Moscow State Diplomacy Institute where he received an honorary doctorate as part of his visit to Russia.
Erdogan said there were issues between countries in the region such ones between Azerbaijan and Armenia as well as between Russia and Georgia.
"And we have some setbacks with Armenia due to our border issues...And the settlement of the Azerbaijan-Armenia problem will also play a key role in the solution of issues between Turkey and Armenia. And I hope issues between Russia and Georgia could also be settled," Erdogan said.
