MALAYSIA, WORLD'S FRIENDLIEST CONFERENCE DESTINATION

By Neville D'Cruz

MELBOURNE, March 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is probably the world's
friendliest conference destination, according to Brisbane-based event manager, Craig Mayne.
Mayne's company, Debbie Does Pty Ltd, recently organised a three-day conference in Kuala Lumpur for the Terry White Chemists chain, involving 320 participants from all over Australia.
"Our delegates had a fantastic time. The conference and everything we experienced in Kuala Lumpur was of the highest quality and very professionally conducted.
"There was a degree of trepidation when Kuala Lumpur was first suggested for our conference destination, but once we arrived in the city, everything turned out to be marvellous," Mayne told Bernama on his return to Australia.
For organised social events, there were a lot on offer to suit all tastes and interests.
The visitors particularly enjoyed the interactivity of making their own pewter bowl at the Royal Selangor School of Hard Knocks.
Mayne said the Aussies thoroughly enjoyed their dinner in Janda Baik where hawker stalls offered a variety of Malaysian food and cultural dance performances.
"It was an amazing night," he said.
Shangri-La Hotel, where the plenary conference sessions and the gala dinner was held, was exceptional and much better than its five-star rating.
Mayne said he could see a lot of opportunities for Malaysia in the corporate meetings market.
"We would definitely recommend Malaysia as a conference destination to other meeting planners,' he said.
Zulkefli Sharif, the Chief Executive of Malaysia Convention and
Exhibition Bureau, said he was delighted at the success of the Terry White Chemists conference.
"We aim to continue refreshing our incentive programmes to increase interest in Malaysia as a fascinating conference destination.
"With our diverse range of meeting offerings, world-class infrastructure, excellent value for money proposition, all within a multi-cultural environment in one destination, we are positive in growing the conference business for Malaysia," he said in a statement.
