Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said during his visit to Russia, "I believe the initiative, which will be launched to build a nuclear power plant in Akkuyu hamlet (of Turkey's southern province of Mersin), will be a model investment for the world." Holding a joint press conference with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev at the Kremlin Palace, Erdogan said, "our timetable and process continue regarding nuclear energy. The claims that an Iranian cargo plane, which was carrying military equipment to Syria, was landed in Turkey's southeastern province of Diyarbakir and searched for nuclear weapons, caused great debates. Turkish Foreign Ministry stated that the landing in Diyarbakir was scheduled and controls in the plane were routine, while denying the claims that the plane was forced to land in by two F-16 airplanes.

Abdullah Ucmak, who served six and a half years in prison for planning to kill Turkish singer Ibrahim Tatlises in 2003 and who continued to demand money after he got out of prison, was detained together with 19 other people in connection with an armed attack against the singer.

Istanbul police detained Abdullah Ucmak, implacable enemy of singer Ibrahim Tatlises since 1998, together with his 20 men yesterday. The vehicle and the Kalashnikovs (which were used in the assassination attempt on Tatlises) were found too. Police is searching whether PKK terrorist organization is backing Ucmak who laid an ambush on Tatlises twice so far. It was learned that Ucmak, who got out of jail five months ago, rented the vehicle (used in the assassination attempt) in Pendik district of Istanbul. Two unknown people, who arrived in Istanbul last week to hit Tatlises and stayed in the house of Ucmak, had their traces lost. It was stated that one of them pulled the trigger and the other was driving the car. Also, it was learned that Ucmak earlier examined Maslak district where Tatlises was hit, and he was in the district during the incident.
"TEN PERCENT OF ISTANBUL COLLAPSES"
Turkish Public Works & Housing Minister Mustafa Demir, who previously said "we would do better than Japans", announced the number of buildings which may collapse in case of an earthquake in Istanbul: only about 10 percent of all buildings will collapse, and 15 percent will be damaged significantly in an earthquake measuring 7.5 on Richter scale in Istanbul.

ERDOGAN INSISTS ON NUCLEAR ENERGY
