Himani Kumar
Chicago, Mar 17 (PTI) Former Indian President Dr APJ
Abdul Kalam will visit Chicago in April during which he will
tour the world famous particle physics laboratory and address
students on varied issues of environment, science and
technology.
The visit to the Fermilab, in Batavia, Illinois is being
organised by Indo-American Centre (IAC), a not-for-profit
community service organisation serving the South Asian
immigrant population.
According to an IAC statement, Dr Kalam will tour
Fermilab to view and learn about several particle physics
projects and experiments that are currently underway,
including the progress of Project X, Fermilab's new high
intensity proton accelerator.
The former Indian President will also speak about his
viewpoints on current particle physics endeavours worldwide
and interact with the employees, scientists, and students of
Fermilab.
"It is a tremendous honour to have Dr Kalam visit us at
Fermilab. I'm sure it will be a very interesting day from him
- he's worked in the forefront of science," Dr Rajendran Raja,
a Fermilab particle physicist and member of IAC Board of
Directors said.
During his visit, Kalam will have a question and
answer session with local high school students and a
collegiate luncheon with college students.
Kalam who has received international recognition for his
contributions in the field of science will be honoured by IAC
on April 24.
The organisation's mission is to promote the well being
of South Asian immigrants through services that facilitate
their adjustment, integration and friendship with the wider
society, nurture their sense of community, and foster
appreciation for their heritage and culture.
