DR MAHATHIR, SITI HASMAH CONFERRED HONORARY DOCTORATES BY UNIMAP

KANGAR (Perlis, Malaysia), March 17 (Bernama) -- Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his wife Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali were conferred University Malaysia Perlis' (Unimap) most prestigious honorary doctorate degrees in a special ceremony at the university here Thursday.
Dr Mahathir was conferred an honorary doctorate in engineering and while Dr Siti Hasmah an honorary doctorate in science.
UniMAP Chancellor Crown Prince of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail presented the scrolls witnessed by his consort Tuanku Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, who is also the Pro Chancellor of UniMAP.
In his speech, the Crown Prince said Dr Mahathir as Malaysia's fourth prime minister who served for 22 years, through his Vision 2020, transformed Malaysia to be a modern an successful nation that was respected by both developed and developing countries alike.
Behind Dr Mahathir's success, he said, there was Siti Hasmah who stood by Dr Mahathir through thick and thin in their life journey in bringing Malaysia to greater heights.
Also present were Perlis chief Minister Dr Md Isa Sabu, UniMAP
chairman Dr Zainul Ariff Hussain and UniMAP vice chancellor, Prof Dr Kamarudin Hussin.
