Turkish premier says Turkey only targets at peace, democracy, law
KAZAN (A.A) - 17.03.2011 - Turkey's prime minister said on Thursday that Turkey had no other goal in its geography than peace, democracy and law.
Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey was not after power and domination, and it did not have different intentions.
"We are trying to develop a relationship based on solidarity and cooperation in this geography with which we have brotherhood ties, a common history, culture and belief," Erdogan said during the Kazan Federal University in Tatarstan.
Premier Erdogan said Turkey had raised its national income by three-folds in eight years, and had become the 17th biggest economy in the world.
The prime minister set Turkey's target to become one of the ten biggest economies in world in 2023, when the country would celebrate the 100th anniversary of its foundation.
Erdogan said the government had also taken steps on road to democratization and made reforms, and it carried out an active foreign policy on basis of peace, democracy, human rights and international law.
"As we started to solve our problems with our neighbors in the short term, we also started to contribute to peace and stability in the Caucasus, Middle East and Balkans," he said.
Erdogan said Turkey was showing its stance with determination and courage whenever it saw anything unjust or wrong, and was backing human rights and laws.
"The more secure, stable and prosperous regional countries are, the more secure, stable and prosperous Turkey will be," he said.
Erdogan said the more problems in the Caucasus, Middle East and Balkans were solved, the more prosperity regional countries would have.
"We share this sensitivity with the Russian Federation, and we are showing a good example of cooperation in solving our problems in our region. I believe this cooperation will continue to boost," he said.
Erdogan said Turkish-Tatar trade volume totalled 3 billion USD in 2008, but it was only around 1.5 billion USD in 2010 due to international financial crisis.
The prime minister said he believed Tatarstan's share would rise in overall trade volume between Turkey and Russia as the two countries aimed to raise their trade to 100 billion USD by 2015.
"Our commercial and economic cooperation with Tatarstan should not be limited only with a few commercial goods, we should diversify it," he said.
Erdogan said it was possible to make joint projects on automotive, chemicals, glassware, and processed food.
"We hope we can start from construction of 2013 Summer Universiade facilities in Kazan, and diversify our cooperation," Erdogan also said.
