TRAVELLERS TO JAPAN BETWEEN MARCH 11 AND APRIL 15 MAY GET REFUND
KUALA LUMPUR, March 17 (Bernama) -- Tourism industry players including several airlines in Malaysia have agreed to allow travellers to Japan between March 11 and April 15 to get a refund or to postpone their purchases in view of the current unsafe situation in Japan.
Tourism Minister Ng Yen Yen said this unprecedented decision was achieved after a meeting Wednesday between top officials of the ministry with Malaysia Travel and Tour Association (Matta), Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, Singapore Airlines and Japan Airlines.
Following the meet, she said MAS had agreed that its passengers who planned to fly between March 11 and April 11 would be allowed to cancel the tickets without any penalty imposed, while for AirAsia, those who planned to fly from March 11 to April 11 could postpone their trip without any extra charge.
However, for AirAsia, a request to refund will be considered on a
case-to-case basis.
"Singapore Airlines will waive any penalty for a refund of the money paid or a postponement of the flight to Japan for the period between March 11 and April 10," she said at a media conference at the Parliament lobby, here Thursday.
She added that Japan Airlines would also issue a refund without any penalty for its passengers to Narita, Sendai, Hanamaki, Aomori, Misawa, Yamagata, Akita, Niigata and Matsumoto.
