Cypark integrated renewable energy generates 10 megawatts for 3,500 homes
NILAI (Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia), March 17 (Bernama) -- Cypark Integrated
Renewable Energy Park, which was launched here Thursday, is capable of
generating up to 10 megawatts of clean energy to meet the energy requirement for
3,500 homes.
Prime Minister Najib Razak, who officially launched the park, said the
project would provide job opportunities to the local people and at the same time
assist Malaysia in achieving the objective of becoming a high-income
nation.
"With the implementation of the project, it will create green technology
jobs, it will create high to middle income employment opportunities, namely 100
job opportunities at the development stage and 20 job opportunities at the
operational stage.
"It not only creates job opportunities but also creates a new generation of
knowledge workers and technology, this is the outcome obtained from the efforts
carried out by Cypark Resources Berhad," he said in his speech when launching
the project at the Pajam waste disposal site, here.
Cypark Integrated Renewable Energy Park is one of the nine Entry Point
Projects (EPPs) under the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) announced by
Najib on March 8.
The project developed by Cypark Resources Berhad is the first to generate
two types of renewable energy, namely solar energy and biogas at the 26-hectare
Pajam waste disposal site.
Najib said the project was an effort to be proud of because it was carried
out through innovation and a new technology developed by locals.
"I am a strong advocate of sustainable energy generation that can produce
clean energy for the needs of factories and residential homes. I'm proud that
this project meets the criteria that we have determined so that Malaysia can
become a nation with a high-income economy," he said.
Najib said the issue on garbage disposal might not be that glamorous but it
was something that must be tackled in the best manner possible.
He said this was because failure in managing garbage disposal properly and
effectively could be hazardous to humans as it could lead to climate change and
global warming.
He said the project could generate a gross national income of more than RM12
million (US$4 million) annually or RM260 (US$86.66 million) within the next 21
years.
Najib said the project would also contribute towards the objective of
reducing carbon emission by 40 per cent by 2020.
