MALAYSIAN JEWELLERS RECORD POTENTIAL SALES OF US$8.68 MLN

KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysian jewellers recorded sales of approximately RM2.78 million (US$926,666) with a further RM26.04 million (US$8.68 million) in potential sales under negotiation at the recent Hong Kong International Jewellery Show 2011.
The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) said the performance was driven by Malaysia's growing international reputation in the Asian region for designing highly creative and innovative jewellery.
The 10 participating companies were confident that they would be
able to expand Malaysia's export of jewellery to Hong Kong and the region in the years to come, Matrade said in a statement, here Friday.
Among the products showcased at the event, from March 4-8, were
cubic zirconia, precious and semi-precious gemstones, silver jewellery, steel jewellery, pearl jewellery and crystal jewellery.
In 2010, Malaysia's export of jewellery was valued at RM6.48 billion
(US$2.16 billion), of which Hong Kong is the 6th largest export destination.
