IIUM FORGES COOPERATION WITH TWO VARSITIES IN TURKEY
KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 (Bernama) -- The International Islamic University, Malaysia (IIUM) will cooperate with two institutions of higher learning in Turkey, namely the University of Yalova and the Bartin University, in the fields of engineering and science.
Two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed at the university, here Friday between its Rector, Prof Datuk Seri Dr Syed Arabi Idid and the Rector of the University of Yalova, Prof Dr M.Niyazi Eruslu and the Rector of Bartin University, Prof Dr Ramazan Kaplan.
Under the MoUs, the three universities will collaborate in the fields of research, academic and student exchange programme and any other fields mutually agreed upon.
Dr Syed Arabi said the cooperation forged today was a manifestation of the outcome of the visit by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to Turkey in February.
"The visit demonstrated the close relations between Malaysia and Turkey. The MoUs will further strengthen ties between the two countries," he told reporters after the signing of the memorandums.
The signing was also witnessed by the Turkish Ambassador to Malaysia, Serap Ataay.
In her speech, the ambassador said Turkey was proud of the development achieved by the IIUM all this while and happy that two of their local universities had forged the cooperation with IUM.
"When Prime Minister Najib visited Turkey last month, one of the subjects was to promote close educational cooperation between the two countries. Our prime minister also proposed to install an Erasmus programme between us.
"I am happy to see that IIUM is taking the first step towards the
cooperation and I hope it will result in many successful projects," she said.
