Turkish prime ministry calls for immediate cease-fire in Libya

ANKARA (A.A) - 18.03.2011 - The Turkish prime ministry declared on Friday that an immediate cease-fire was needed in Libya.
Commenting on UN Security Council's latest decision on the situation in Libya, the Turkish prime ministry said Turkey had been expressing since the beginning that all the steps to be taken regarding the developments in the Middle East and North Africa should be based on international legitimacy.
"Turkey has also expressed that it is a moral and conscientious responsibility to support peoples' demands for change and transformation," a statement from the prime ministry said.
The statement noted that Turkey had earlier declared that it was against foreign military intervention to the situation in Libya.
"Within this framework, we demand the ongoing bloodshed and the violence against civilians to stop and a cease-fire to be declared immediately. We expect the necessary steps to be taken as soon as possible and the nations' demands for change and transformation to be fulfilled," the prime ministry said.
The statement also noted that the decision taken on the matter by the UN Security Council yesterday was binding on all countries.
Turkish prime ministry also said the democratic transformations that would meet the region's peoples' legitimate expectations should be brought to life in a peaceful way, adding no violence should be displayed against such demands.
