MALAYSIA HOPES CONFLICTING PARTIES IN LIBYA SEEK PEACEFUL RESOLUTION
KUALA LUMPUR, March 19 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is concerned about the
developments in Libya and hopes for all the parties involved in the conflict to cease armed hostilities and seek a peaceful resolution on their differences.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement here Saturday, in this regard, Malaysia supported any dialogue and initiatives for a peaceful resolution among all the concerned parties in Libya.
Malaysia hoped for the immediate cessation of all armed hostilities and violence, which was detrimental to the peace and security of the Libyans as well as the region as a whole, the statement added.
In order to help protect civilians, Malaysia took note of the United Nations Security Council’s Resolution 1973 (2011), to establish a ban on all flights in the airspace of Libya.
The no-fly zone was voted by UN Security Council on Thursday night.
The statement said Malaysia also welcomed the announcement by the Libyan Foreign Minister Mussa Kussa on an immediate ceasefire in the month-long battle against rebels fighting to overthrow Muammar Gadaffi.
