NO MALAYSIAN WITHIN 50KM-RADIUS OF DAMAGED POWER PLANT IN FUKUSHIMA
MEMBAKUT (Sabah, Malaysia), March 19 (Bernama) -- So far, no Malaysian in quake-andtsunami-hit Japan is within a 50km-radius of the radioactive leaks due to multiple explosions at an electric power plant in Fukushima, northeast of Japan, said Foreign Minister Anifah Aman Saturday.
“Japan’s prime minister issued a warning to its citizens living within a 30km-radius to stay indoors and our people are not even within a 50km-radius,” he told reporters, here when asked on the current situation in the country.
He also said Science, Technology and Innovations Minister Dr Maximus Ongkili was in contact with related agencies in Japan for information on the current situation regarding radiation from the damaged power plant.
“If the situation worsens, we will bring our people home. For now, those who want to come home, the government will arrange for them to board commercial flights and we have already asked Malaysia Airlines to give priority to our citizens who want to come home,” he added.
